'Dewram Wehere himi weda siti samaye ..... maa sitiyaanam samiduni
obe pilisarana pathaa mama emi bawanduru kathara gewa ……………..
i thought of starting this little note quoting those beautiful verses from a beautiful song sung by Mr. Victor Ratnayake.
There is a door a closed one it is very tightly locked not
easy to open but it is not impossible to open.
There are people who have opened
this door. This door will direct you to a very special place can you guess what
it is?
This door of the very special place is not near. That is
located in a very far away place. You find No easy bus routs. The path is not
smooth or silky. No! None of can uses the highways or the airways, the sea ways
or the other water ways. But there is a way what we only need is a will to
reach to this particular place.
There are few sub keys that you may need but one can not
really say that all these sub keys are unimportant compared to the big key that
one needs to open the door of this particular place one of them is Patience,
Dedication, humanity, a mind that feels the feelings of others, love and compassion,
generosity, a mind free of harmful thoughts surely we can think of few other
sub keys.
One needs to go passing uncountable number of sub ways. One can
think of many other sub ways. Can you think of such sub ways you may have heard
of? You may find no detours to reach to this place or no short cuts to this
place. We all have to travel long way. You
can’t measure the distance in km’s one has to measure the distances in number
of souls, but that is impossible. People who have not visited this place are
not good in such calculations.
The travelers who have successfully reached this place never
will return to the place where we live now. That is an eternal truth I like to believe
that way.
You will definitely see uncountable number of barriers all
along this path. One really can not say the exact point that you may see these
barriers it is not marked in the map of this road path. The cartographers have no role to play here. They
have also become the members of our groups of this traveling.
All of them are named though they are not numbered.
‘Selfishness’, anger, hate, temptation towards many things of
our lives, there are many other barriers you can think of.
a heart full of non-harmful thoughts would definitely help all of us at least a little to reach to this place
'Bo Mul Bo Path mata pegenawa samaawa dee mage paw arawanawa' .......
You will definitely find a resting place. All those are temporary
places none of the places would provide you permanent residences. These resting
places have a very particular name ‘life of each soul’ you may build this
resting place of yours in one of the continents or in another corner of this
world you really can not predict any of these places or areas of your residence
in this sansaara.
There is a possibility of asking or getting help from a guide’
if you like. You may meet different guides, the parents, the teachers, the
monks, religious leaders, they will guide you to this place but you will only get
least help from them because we can not forget that they are part of us too, the
travelers of this path. They need help too. You may meet them at some special places like ‘temples’.
The ‘self’ has a huge role to play in this visiting and just visiting is not
enough I know.
On your way to this place you may meet different travelers from
different continents of this world known to you or unknown to you. The
strangers, kings like Dharmashoka or chandashoka, Devaanam piyatissa, men like
anguli maala, women like Wishaka situ dewiya , kisa gothami, patachaara, children
like sopaka, some may come and appear before you some may invisible to you,
‘rahathan wahanse’( arahat)
Some may take you back to the point where you started and
delay the journey and some may definite take you ahead.
Sometimes some of these
travelers that you may meet in this long journey of yours would offer you
things like love, tender, kindness, etc. and other things like ‘poison’ like ‘hate,
anger, disrespect, dishonesty’ those things are unavoidable.
So we discussed earlier to open this door one needs to travel a
long way along this path of Sansaara.
What is the ‘main key’ or the ‘master key’ for this huge door?
This particular key is tagged and named and this is not an ordinary tag. One
can not think of changing this label or the tag the way he/she likes; ‘Damma’
is the name of this master key, the main key.
This door will take you to a very special place as we
discussed little while ago you will definitely find all what you need in here
in this eternal peace.
This place has a name ‘the Nirwana’.
You will feel lighter as soon as you enter in
to this place I believe. And you‘ll observe very bright ‘light’ in there. ‘Light’ that is what you needed and expected
knowingly or unknowingly and came looking for all these lives of your sansaara.
Talk to your own mind for a moment isn’t that what you need or expect. Those things
are written and are always there in our unconscious mind I believe. We cry for
happiness sometimes, we all cry for relief in many things, what are we deliberately
asking for unconsciously even ….. ?
I don’t understand the colour of this eternal place, the look
of the place, the architecture, name of the owner. I have not been to this
place before. That is why I am here with all of you traveling in parallel to
you or behind you. I have not yet reached at least a quarter of this path. I
have no idea as to when and how this path may take to this eternal place. I have
a very long and a long way to go.
This place is not a privately owned property. This is a public
place anyone who wishes to follow the very ‘eternal teachings’ of Budun Wahanse
surely will get the chance to enter in to this amazingly peaceful place.
We all know that we are an ordinary people, human-travelers of
this sansaara. I can write things so easily and the priests can preach ‘bana’
that are written in the books or their masters have taught them. I can not forget here that we all have to face
all the incidents and events of our lives. How many times that we may have
heard ‘bana’ and thought of these things before. Have we changed or have we
ever though of changing our way of thinking at least a little? How many wesak
days we have celebrated these long years and all those days only have become the
days of our history.
How wonderful it is if we all can live in peace at least
without fighting with each other for any of the reasons. Let us wish for a terror
free world on this beautiful day of Wesak. This is truly a ‘beautiful’ world.
Do you agree with me?
Namo Tassa Bhagawato arahato samma-sam- Buddhassa!
