All rights reserved

This morning my sister and I were having a little chit –chat over few things little later, I asked her something. She got little angry and said

‘you have no right to say so’

Oyata ehema kianna ‘ithiyak’ neha

I was wondering she was ‘right’. Even as a sister there is a limit that I can interfere in to her ways of working or doing things. She was absolutely right.  Again after few minutes I just teased her again asking another question ‘as a sister what are the rights I have over our bond?

Ok ok it is not about ‘rights’ I have used the wrong word ‘the right word is ‘likes and dislikes’ – kemaththa saha nokemaththa’

This conversation and the words we used here are tallying with what we discussed. The words we generally use depend on the nature of the discussion or the things that we discuss.  Likes and dislikes – these two matched with the things we discussed.

‘Sister Rights’ - this comes under the category of human rights I believe and I also believe that you may have not heard something like ‘sister rights’.  As such we can think of many rights of categories. All are aware of their rights or the rights of the others because people read and learn a lot these days on many things. That is a good trend. According to my awareness it is not always the ‘law students’ who learn the ‘general laws of things now ‘others also read and learn something though they do not sit for exams and become lawyers. That is also a good thing ‘ at least a little awareness on little, little things because the things that you learn ‘never go in-vain’ ‘you will never have to throw without using them. One day any moment you get a chance to use the things you have learnt.

All rights reserved’ – if you are a book reader than a web reader you are very much familiar with this sentence that generally printed on one of the front pages.  This shows that the ‘everything that is written there, the content is belong to someone legally, the writers, the publishers etc. am I right?

Even I believe there should be some laws or rights over using ‘this and that of web related things’. Correct me if I am wrong here.
Sometimes when we like to quote something from a book or lines written in somewhere ‘we say or indicate the ‘rights of the particular author writer etc.

Following lines were written in the MALALASEKERA ENGLSIH SINHALA DICTIONRY before the page that shows the contents.

“ no part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system , or transmitted, in any from or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise, without the prior written permission of the publisher’

The publisher has not given the authority to reproduce etc without getting his permission.

If we quote few lines of a song we mentioned the name of the singer at least ‘we automatically like to give the ‘right of the true owner, to the owner of ‘certain belongings’.

Similarly we say if we take a picture, photograph to describe something better or give it a complete meaning we do so, we never forget to mention or give the right of the owner or the creator. Even if there are no laws written there are ethics and ‘things related to humanity we should respect.

When some group or people, company do any strikes then we start talking and try to remind them about the ‘rights and the responsibilities’ related to the particular things they are discussing or the parties involved .  Children have the right to learn, the students have the right to learn. Yes there are rights ‘workers rights’ etc. the rights of the owners of something private or public.

We have to use our rights respecting the ‘laws that are generally attached to each and every task or role, company etc. you can fire a worker if the particular worker has not fulfilled his/her duties or has broke the laws of the company, the codes of conduct etc.

Some use the right they were given to ‘protest’. Often we identify ‘some clashes between the rights and the responsibility over things.

If I am unable to ‘play my role as a good sister as the general people/society has described the role, indicating the ‘ethics socially accepted.  I do not think that I have the right to interfere or expect my sister or my brothers to play their roles as a brother or as sister as society described or expect. I am thinking about the ‘smajagatha neethireethi’ I am not thinking of the laws written in the books of laws but the socially accepted laws written in the minds of people of a society, our society.

I do not know whether there are any laws pertaining to ‘how a sister should behave or interact with each other, the members of the family or with siblings in the books of the laws.

When the teachers are on a strike the students say that ‘you are stealing our rights to learn’.  I have not heard anything before that the teachers say when the students are on strike because of something ‘you are stealing the right we have to teach you’.  Things are generally like that. When we are asking for our rights ‘using our ways of showing it’ sometimes we are taking or stealing away the ‘the rights of someone else’s’ may be.

How is it possible to win our rights pertaining to certain role or job category with out harming the rights of others ‘is a good think to think a while’.

There is always ‘human side of everything’.

Sometimes if you have to follow a certain law ‘there is no space for emotional things or feelings. There is no space for ‘emotional rights’ in the books of laws.

If you want to adopt a child you need to fulfill certain things. If you have not filled the ‘what the law is asking from you ‘then even if you ask saying that you really want to do so - adopt ‘you will not succeed’ because the law does not allow you.

We can say that ‘you have the right to hold the trophy because you won it playing and showing your talents, skills against the other group, team- ZIMBABWE.

You (the country) won may be because they lost the balance of mind at that moment; we won because we defeat them. We won because you showed your skills and talents. You won because you used your talents and skills accurately, on time, right time.

For one group to win or become winners the other group has to loose. And also you won because they have not done their home work properly and they have not studied you well.

You won because they have not understood your capacities of wining. You won may be because you are ‘more talented and have more skills than they are. You won because they did not play ‘yesterday’s match properly may be they might play next match well or they might identify their weaknesses and try and find solutions for those things and become a winner. ‘Next time’. That is the nature of winning.

We can think of many things regarding ‘rights and responsibilities’ as well as ‘winning and loosing’.

We talk about these things ‘rights’ and responsibilities because there is a big group called ‘people’ existing in this world. ‘people’ is a one word yet plural.
