PRIDE - RICE with 'fried KARAWILA sambole plus DEL curry from DELGODA ................................

 HAPPY BIRTH DAY ‘SATHOSA’!!!!!!!!!

Before I start this note I thought I should think of a ‘right start’ and ‘right words’ I could not think of any better word than this word ‘PRIDE– RICE’. We lived these long years , our ancestors built huge palaces, weva’s and STATUES SAMADI - BUDDHA, crafted immeasurable I have no words to explain ‘carvings ‘ – every where possible of every kingdom all sorts. I am thinking ‘did they eat ‘what we eat today’ NO they had the ‘PRIDE – RICE’ see fried rice is foreign to our country. Good for a change but not for a every day eating’ other wise our youngs and others of your our generation their generation her generation his generation all generation ‘might forget this pride word ‘pride rice’. I am no against fried rice my friend but I love pride – rice we inherited from gifted past.
Let me keep this the ‘plate of ‘PRIDE RICE a side for a moment that I cooked. It is well cooked ‘not half boiled’ ‘thambapu hale bath’ well boiled rice I used.

I have to now think of a right ‘dishes, curries to match the plate of pride rice.

I thought of a DEL CURRY from DELGODA

Del is breadfruit goda is a lot. You will meet many ‘goda’s if you think of travelling to ‘any where you like’ from where ever you live.

Ambalangoda, Balangoda, Imbulgoda,Gohagoda,Bathalagoda,Gongalegoda is  historical ‘good Banda’s lives there. Guess the name & the character historical hidden amongst the sentence I wrote? If wins I will take you around ‘Gongalegoda’ (conditions apply - KIDS only) Take the map locate the DELGODA’ ‘do not say ‘EUREKA’ others might laugh at you. ‘Oh dear young ones the talented ones if you are hearing this ‘DELGODA’ for the first time or if you have not heard it even at the table – dining then I can expect to hear it from you when you ‘right locate the area’ DElgoda  ‘Eureka’.

If amma says ada apita haal neha ‘del gediyak thibunoth thambanna puluwan’ do not be so surprised DEL is a good alternative for a ‘main meal’ type meal’.  Thambapu del with very hottt and hottttttttt and spicy ‘lunu misrisa’ or pol sambol you might say ‘ahhhh’
NO I suggest a lunu misira’ ‘ katta sambole’ – a better choice with thambapu del you can reach the ‘ best restaurant’ from home no need to visit or step in any restaurant‘ how is Keama dasa’s findings these days – ask your pal to walk around a bit in DELGODA he might find a ‘cheap yet wow kind of meal – a restaurant’. Will catch the next ideal place via you ‘your page’

I know all ala (Yams) gives a similar idea for a good balance meal though now a day some says ‘ownewata wadaa ala kanna epaa ‘seeni’ thiyenawa nam. (‘Do not eat too much of potato if you suffer from any sugar ailments’ - diabetic)

Aiyoooooooo I am so worried ‘aparade ne’ ‘what these seeni and peni rasa has done to our ways of tasting the best flavours we grow here or there in Haawa eliya or Bandarawela or in Nuwara eliya. Mr Bandara’s wela might have some good pride rice a better quality might consult next time.

Let’s go to NUwara to fetch some ALA – ALADENIYA if you prefer ALA instead of DEL.  Can you wait a little I have not finished the ‘DEL curry yet’ my DEL curry was distracted by Nangi’s interferences as usual, yesterday but managed somehow. She was at home – yesterday ‘Poya Day’ (the poya before the last poya of the year).

If you have no bath (Pride - rice) have some Del we discussed already if not Kos. I noticed some pana mal these days all over of my favorite kos gaha ‘ammo kaapu tharamak kos’ in Anton Sir owned premises.

Could you please educate me Sir (District secretariat) how many kos gas (Jack trees) are remaining in Kosgoda and koslanda. I like to know the current estimations. You do not maintain such information no sir.  You did not issue any permits recently to cut them down no. I know you issue no such permits unnecessarily. What are the now procedures of issuing permits to cut kos or del trees Sir?

Pride rice with thambapu kos or del tikak a side ‘can you imagine the nutrition - fulness’ and the ‘heaviness for better’ of the plate not the weight of the plate in kilos’ but the ‘calories’ contains in it ‘so good for ‘young ones and the kids for a better growth. I am sure they can easily obtain the ‘day’s requirement of calories with no issues that it might add ‘healthiness’ & ‘full meal concept’ to their ‘Thinking’.

MY people ‘ OUR PEOPLE I know that how much you do care about your own friends, friends of friends, friend of your friends, my friend’s friend is not your enemy, not mine or theirs either, we all friends,  ‘neighbours’ close and friends live distance and the people of your own yaaya/gama - so much.

My friend ‘KRAWILA YAAYA – I know you have no issues - sugar I guess ‘what problem you have you live in a yaaya – Karawila. Good for diabetic that is an old known all known medication you can consume them as a juice or prepare as curry, have a salad a side - fried karawila little, little pieces. I do not like to ask you to eat as it is ‘bitter’ veryyy bitter’ You need to fry them until you get ‘golden brown colour’ do not burn it if you go away keeping it on your love stove when you return you will have no golden brown way fried karawila but ‘some burnt karawila’ not good or match with ‘Pride – rice.

Aladeniya I think ala bathala manioc all of them are good siblings of one good family, friends of poor. You know some times they teach us the lessons of ‘patience’ if you think of adding them and keeping a side of your pride – rice plate you will learn the importance of and the values of ‘Patience-full life’

Ala erena kan inna puluwanlu eth ala thembena kan inna behalu’ have you heard about this before- the saying from yesterdays.  ‘You need to ‘prepare the land for such cultivation’ that is step one.

I guess even before that you need to have ‘Manioc dandu or bathala dandu (about five or six feet high branches of old Manioc plants neatly cut in to pieces). That you know right. Next step; do not expect me to say the ‘width and the deepness of the ‘ground - that you have to dig to plant the pieces you have cut kept a side ready to use when think of ‘do some cultivation in your own home garden’ because I am no good cultivator.

Think of the spaces between each plant that you are trying to plant ‘this kind cultivation’ need enough of space to grow well. Do not use any artificial fertilizers before or even after- not recommended by good hearted ‘AGRORIANS’.  THEY might not like or accept. Take care of it. And I suggest go and spend few minutes at least each day there in the garden of your grown manioc. Observe how it grows slowly and slowly but systematically ask your children if possible to spend a few minutes with you they might learn some lessons do not wait until their ‘Agriculture teacher teaches them everything’.

I am not sure of the height maximum that it goes or grows upward.  You will get the chance to view the leaves – greeny have you seen the leaves – Manioc (question for kids) before? Makes a very tastier and healthier melluma adds kids and ours and of ‘all’ a days’ requirements of green supplements (nutritious -full) agree? Is it vitamin A & D a melluma carries I am asking this just to verify from ‘Nutritionists’ any we know’?

Now you have in your plate PRIDE - rice ‘PRIDEFUL’ some DEL from DELGODA, Karawila salad or sambole (locally very popular) from KARAWILA YAAYA, KOS ( I know if you have chosen DEL it is no point thinking of having KOS same day you can select either KOS from KOSGODA or from KOSLANDA,  DEL from DELGODA.

If you have all those above mentioned you do not have to go to search for ‘Ala’ in ALADENIYA. Mr Aladeniya family may not issue you the list of the parampara they already have connections with (this is a reminder for the researches – survey lovers who are very fond of researching the ‘OLD curries that matches with PRIDE rice. People’s perceptions ‘HOW VITAL’ do not have to mention here).  Interview MS Aladeniya for more good information for your ‘knowledge boosting purposes’.

‘Deniya’  ‘yaaya’ remind me of a huge area of something that can be ala,  peni or karawila.

Peni is Honey there is no peni in company it is ‘COMPANY’ did you hear my friend who is so fond of learning good English says and mutters that always. If you have a good ‘COMPANY’ trustable what other sweets or peni rasa you need you do not have to go to Kitulgala to get some KITUl peni or KITHUL hakuru I thought. A good company brings everything before your door step I am sure you will agree with me.

I do not know what company sells peni – honey that is ‘Be a good ‘Honey’ Company ‘unlimited’ am I right? Is there a such company registered at ‘Small Industrial development Authority’

If you are satisfied with the menu –set for the meal of the day
(did you read it well the menu above I wrote?)
You do not have to worry about your ‘after sweet’ – desert
How about some ‘WARAKA’ from WARAKAPOLA?

Pola is fair. That is known as very fair ‘fair’.  Good friend of welfare one might say if any one think of some good relief in expenditure – day to day. Pola is a good choice.
I know that there is a pola in warakapola that there they do not stick to ‘sell Waraka’ but other things as well. All types greens, Maniocs, Del, angunakola from ANGUNAKOLA PELESSA. What is the real meaning of ‘pelessa’ J. B. Sir?,  Thala meneri, cowpea game elawalu ( village grown vegetables) All what you need for your department ‘ MADE IN CHENA’ or HIGHLY GORWN IN KORATUWA – well protected with a ini weta ( fence made only in local)

Waraka there is another kind ‘Peni waraka’ – (not peni in Waraka) very sweet variety
Now you know what waraka is right?

Not the baby ones - good for Polos curry
Not the raw ones - good for any curry
‘Ripen’ ones good for after rice - Pride rice

If you will entangle with any thoughts afterwards the moment you finish having meal pride rice to have some ‘kiri’ – curd’ purchase some good honey. you can even go to ‘Penideniya’ if you are heading from the Western province you will have to go passing  KIRIBATHGODA, WARAKAPOLA, NELUNDENIYA, PENIDENIYA, PERA ( GUAWA) DENIYA  I am not sure which direction you will have to go to search some good ‘Undu’ to make some ulundu wade ( for a evening – tea’ ) UNDUGODA(?) there is one Undugoda near so huge ‘Suyabalnduwa’ ( Siyabala Tree) that is a different Undugoda.

Nelum (lotus) ala curry with kiribath do not go together right?  Some might say ‘nelum ala with kiri bath is alright’ But you can have this curry with ‘pride rice’ with no issues.   Let’s make a lunu mirisa for kiribath ladies that is for your ‘family breakfast’. Best meal of the day –‘The Breakfast’ one has to take sitting comfortably do not think of any other things just relax take your meal so PRIDE-FULLY I do not have to mention all know that and that will add ‘total’ fullness’ though some say ‘sometimes ‘fullness may bring disasters’ (you need to learn to maintain your limit of taking or purchasing something from the market for your consume purposes then this will become ‘wrong’).

You have heard about ‘KIRIBATH’ I have no doubt( I am asking this question from my foreign friends)  KIRIBATH’ comes under ‘SUPER PRIDE RICE’ category.  When you go passing MIRISWATTE towards ‘kiribath goda’ then take some misris (chilies) from misris watte, some dehi (lime)from  Dehiwala (different direction), lunuwila is far from dehiwala but lunu is important (lunu is salt ) that you need for any curry or dishes.
Kiribath with kesel for your good morning meal – any day
(Kesel is Banana- plantain) gives you no issues – don’t go any far there is a huge KESELWATTE (a garden of plantains /bananas) close to panchikawatte.

Sorry I follow no particular ALPHEBATICAL or other wise ORDER in writing this ‘meals for mornings and afternoons or for nights. I first mentioned ‘a pride full meal for your LUNCH ‘ PRIDE rice with some good options of curries. Then I thought of giving you some hints for a ‘Good MORNING’ meal – breakfast. Some  Kiribath.

Let me rewind my memory ‘for a ‘GOOD MORNING OPTION’

KIRIBATH from KIRIBATHGODA

LUNUMIRIS in collaboration with and from MIRISWATTE, DEHIWALA AND LUNUWILA
KESEL from KESELWATTE

There is BATHALA if you prefer ‘nutrition-full meal for your good morning breakfast’. BOILED bathala again with a lunu mirisa with or without some grated pol keeping a side.
Now thankfully I can think of ‘GOOD EVENING - TEA OPTION’
Take some ‘seeni’ SUGAR’ from use this area only for ‘GOOD WILLS’ – SEENIGAMA’
Take TEA from THEAWATTE

(go to Ragama but do not think of that option Raa - toddy) ‘thea watte’ I was thinking of the meaning here watte though this has multiple meanings  here I refer it as ‘TEA ESTATE’  ‘ THEA WATHU ( tea estates) not pol wathu or mal wathu.

What do you say will you have some ‘ ULUNDU wade’ from good UNDU GODA? ( you know right)

Some THALAGULI not from JINADASA’s (only for this time alright Jinadasa’s is a better place to eat and bring home thalaguli – back home) but from THALAPITIYA. They have a play ground full of THALA  that is a lot no what harm taking some from them good for them as well. INCOME/Profit.

Pitiya/Pittaniya is play ground) is there a play ground in every school. No I know the space matters sometimes you have. Is the issues for some town kids in town schools but they have given options – sharing.

That is above mentioned PLAIN TEA OPTION is for a good evening or around 10 or 10 .30 am ‘your morning break’. What is the accurate way to write it ‘PLAIN TEA or PLANE – TEA’? I KNOW SOME AROPLANES OFFER GOOD TEA during your – your any destination.
Some more nutritious hints for any one’s ‘good knowledge boosting - gains’ are as follows
‘Thala mala pipila’ is not a production of One Thalapitiya. I have not taken/ consumed enough of Thala or meneri to improve my ‘ memory lane therefore I can’t remember who has produced the stage drama – Thala mala pipila’ ( good one) .

Thala is sooo good for your good hair growth and selling ‘thala kerali’ is a good business.
Thala Kerali is different to Yathuru ( KEYS) Kerali ( keralla is not the rebel for this meaning it is ‘TAG’ – YATHURU KERELLA, key tag) NO I DO NOT LIKE TO TALK about GOLDEN KEY/s might bring issues to my normally maintain yathuru kerella. You know sometimes some rebel to get or own this yathuru and that yathuru in some families which is not good if that is within your own family other wise ‘YOU DESERVE TO HAVE it back WHAT YOU HAD EARLIER’. We can talk of such things for days and days not just pages and pages is it a common thing in all parts of the world attached to many ‘families’ companies – share holders, etc ?

If you find no seeni in seenigama go to UKWATTE ( I am just reminding you)
I told you there is no sooo special order that I have followed here or not known to you in writing this very long pedura like essay. Let me add and remind one dish ‘BATU’ – brinjals SALAD OR CURRY that is your choice from BATUWATTE.

I SUGGEST THAT you can find the rest of the ‘aduma kuduma’ that you may require to prepare the curry you like ‘some karapincha from KARAPINCHA ( Rathnapura district) COCONUT from POLHENGODA or from POLGAHAWELA. If you do not like waraka, thala kerali for your after meal option have some DIWUL – WOOD APPLE from DIWULAPITIYA.

Have a nutritious – full day for a better 'today' and for a 'tomorrow' all my friends !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(My Special thanks goes to Poddi  -i (Asha Madhushani) and poddi – ii ( Maheshi Basnayake) for filling my brain lane with so much names of villages and towns) Madhushani is from Thalapitiya/Ehaliyagoda and Maheshi is from ‘Ambilipitiya)

  1. Dear Sandika

    I read your article
I really liked it. I think, I learn a lot of things

I like to eat manioc with pol sambol

    Cassava (manioc)
Manioc(Cassava) has been theorized that the plant's ability to make cyanide may be useful as a type of gene therapy to treat cancer,
but further research is needed to determine whether the technique will work in humans.

    take care
