Adai waasanawa ……. Ada Thunkoti Delakshayai ……..

For some winning is a dream. We dream of becoming a ‘winner’ a winner in every way if possible. Dreams come to you in different colour codes, shapes and sizes, in different fashions, styles.  Winning a lottery is for some a dream.  Some daydream of winning a lottery. So needless to say that the lives of people generally are filled with dreams, hopes aims and goals. I have seen people dreaming of winning a lottery. I have not counted and I have not followed any information on how many lottery selling outlets that our country maintains and in each districts. I have no clue of such things. It is interesting to know though.

Is this really necessary for a country like us? What do you think?  Is this something like gambling some kind of authorized way of doing things?  For some this is an addiction and some buy these as a habit.
Some have never won a single lottery all these years of their buying and dreaming of wining a lottery. I know that for sure. But people never ever stop buying them. Iis that because people generally love to dream of some things or is it just because we don’t understand the realities or the possibilities of such winning is rare. Obviously the winning chances are less.  I am sure they all understand that millions of people around the country are buying the same lottery ticket having a winning hope in their mind. Their hope is to win at least a little of them that the lotteries board is offering at a particular time.

In the recent past that each lottery ticket was sold for just ten rupees but now you need to pay doubled of that amount right? Rs.2o/ = rupees I think that is the current rate.

People know that.  People understand that there is only one winning chance only one person would win. But there are ‘senasili thegi’ apart from the big money you can win. Some people just happy with what they get never worry about the things that they don’t get or receive but they just happy seen the happiest who are wining or the winner.  ‘Satisfaction’ is something very attach to ones mind, feelings I believe some just stay happy by receiving something little hoping and aiming a lot at the beginning.

I like to think of people who sell these lotteries. It is interesting to have a look at such outlets with uncountable number of lotteries to be sold hanging and pasted all over.  Some of them are tiny and the person who sells fortune for the others just suffer sweating all over sometimes in a tiny place selling luck and happiness to the others. Selling luck and happiness is not easy is that what they reminding us always?

Is it really possible to buy such things such as ‘happiness’ and ‘success’?
Doesn’t he she/ has hopes too, the sellers of these lotteries?

Don’t they hoping or dreaming of winning a lottery?  So why do they sell it I mean ‘luck and happiness’ to the others that never have met before or never have seen before why can’t they just keep them all with them. Interesting right?
Winning is something ‘unpredictable’ you may win today or tomorrow. Or you may never win. All these things have different shapes and sizes and different facets too.  You may see this in a totally different way. The true meaning of winning and the winners I may hold different views than to this in a couple of week’s time because time is something that always ‘adds things’ to our lives the knowledge is refreshing every moment.

Selling lotteries is there job.
This ‘industry’ (I am sure that it is ok to call this an industry) provides thousands and millions of jobs for people. That should be thankful.

Interdependency, true that we people depend on each others help. We buy lotteries from the people who sell lotteries, and then they get a chance to find bread and breakfast for their kids. The board of directors, the advertising agencies, the ladies and the gentle men of helping wining the lotteries, the machine operators of such lottery machines,  the people who print this little ‘a rupee note’ like thing.  Let me not forget the number of people who work at all level of this huge department.

They all survive thanks to the people who buy and sell these ‘lucky tickets’ to the people of our country.
I am not against this or supporting this. There are positives and negatives of anything or of all the things.

There is a little boy in my little town in Kandy.  I remember how he started selling lotteries or how he started his business.

He walked, walked and walked miles and miles he did this for his mother initially. After some time he bought a push bicycle that became a little relief for him. He stopped walking and started cycling all over the areas that he was expected to sell lotteries. He is supposed to achieve a target.  ( this is a true story not fictional)

Most of us felt so happy for him that he could buy a bicycle.  He is a sub dealer/ sub seller. He works for a well established a lady lottery seller. She is W.G. Kusumalatha  every one knows her because of the people who became millionaires buying the lotteries that she sells. She appears on TV at least every six months with her winner.

This little boy is a contributor a giver of happiness and luck.  You don’t find his name on the other side of the lottery but you may find the name of the big dealer of lotteries who work for lotteries board of SL. He is not a big seller or a dealer yet.  He has enough of time for that I believe.
Now this little boy is a big young man who owns a motor bicycle. He now easily reaches so many people. It took him long time to come to where he is now he had to work hard and walk miles endlessly to come to this period of his life. I am happy for him.

We use to call him ‘lotterai malli’ for some he is ‘Francy’ I guess his name is ‘Francis’
He comes to my place as well and we all used to buy lotteries from him then we have little chit chats about the winners, the places that he generally visits to sell lotteries and also about his dream of wining a lottery one day.

There are days that he could not sell all what he got to sell. I know that generally what he does is he sometimes buys few of them that are left unsold. And there were chances that he won some money from them. I am sure that he will be a big winner and will win a big lottery one day. My wishes are always, and always with him.

He is very proud of his customers who hold big positions, private and in the public sector.  He like to share his achievements sometimes with others, the information of lottery winners etc.  He is so happy of his winners who generally buy lotteries from him everyday.

You may get instant results scratching the lotteries that are printed with hidden amounts.
Winning life is not an instant thing. You take years to plan your life sometimes and then wining perhaps takes some more years, these things are not instantly happening.

Sometimes it just a letter that misses their total ‘win’.  Obstacles. Some don’t get the chance to win a total amount just because of a missing letter.  And they just miss everything because of one particular number that is not written in a lottery note that they bought.
Some things are certainly amazing so surprising.

How sometimes our life changes is indescribable. A moment is enough to change ones life.  A moment that people spend some money on buying a lottery ticket, the moment that they see and hear the winning numbers on TV, those things are enough for a change of a life, forever.
People say that they can’t sleep in peace after winning a lottery. They are dreaming of planning their lives with the money that they won ……

Some know very well to manage the money they ‘win’ some don’t know and the end result of winning a lottery sometimes just leave you with disappointments only.  ‘Balancing’ everything is important I believe.

Winning and managing, both we need to do very cleverly. If you don’t know to maintain or to protect what you have won your win will go in vain then I believe.

Winning is never an easy thing and afterwards protecting the ‘winner’ label is far more difficult.
You don’t have to win a lottery to win a life. You don’t have to win a lottery to be a richer.  There are other things that what matters most. There are people who have won life without dreaming of winning a lottery. But they have walked towards the wining target/point slowly and patiently.
Patience leads your life towards winning I believe.

How can we be a complete winner a total winner lovely to know such things as well.
The day that one wins a lottery is a day that a dream comes true for an ordinary person who was dreaming of winning a lottery.

There are lucky days and lucky numbers for lucky people.  The luck sometimes comes to your doorstep wrapped with numbers or sometimes with letters.  It is not always come with a nice container or with a lovely cover wrapped in a very artistic way.

I remember of a song sung by then a child now a winner Dr. Ruwan Srilal Dalpadadu

“Man punchi welanda sweep wikunaalai jeewath wane ……
Maame nende aiye akke enna suraala balanna
Suraala balanna” ………..

I have a question in my mind was that the period that this ‘lottery’ system came in to Sri Lankan lives?
I don’t like to talk about other lotteries much that are related to gambling etc . None should dream of becoming such a winner…….

May all your dreams come true!
