The Masters of ‘Life’ …….

I know this world is full of masters.  Masters in theater and art, the masters of politics, masters of ‘creators’ of the world. The masters who taught us ‘ayanna aayanna’ the first two letters of the Sinhalese alphabet’. A – Z the letters that all the masters of sciences and arts should learn before they become the masters of their preferred areas.

The person who sells ‘keere’ is another master for me who teaches me the lessons of colour combinations of life, the greener touch of our own lives. The lessons he knows to teach the person who sells ‘garments’ at the ‘luxury clothing outlet’ never knew to teach.
But I like to accept that he also teaches me the unique techniques of selecting better styles of clothing without getting entangle with all the designer wears I see. The garments that are hanging all over in all seasons sometimes smiling and sometimes ignoring me due to the real weight of my personal wallet teach me different things.

My own TV screen that sometimes spoil my brain is also a master that teaches me the method of escaping from the ‘voices and the pictures’ that says ‘buy this and buy that’, ‘don’t buy that but buy this’’ the best result is assured world of products.
There is a tendency that you meet different masters of life in different phases of your life. Who are these masters, the religious leaders? Yes I accept I have no doubt about that. Their teachings definitely are the ways for us to understand the negativity and the positivity side of ones life.  They have shown us the path or the eternal ways to win life by adding the required colours to paint ones life.
There are people who teach you daily lessons. Have you ever met such teachers before? Have you ever realized the things that you alone can learn about your own ‘life’ even without stepping in to an institution called a school or a university? …..

You don’t always carry note books or a pen, a pencil where ever you are heading to. It is not possible to keep note on everything we see or learn or that we hear.  But let me remind you that you have much more storing capacity in your heart and in your mind than any other man made devises you may buy. They have limited storing capacities. Think of your own heart and brain how much you have stored there. How much of knowledge that you carry when ever you travel from here to there. How much of ‘tenderness’ that you release from ‘your never old heart’ and how much you share with the people that you meet in this journey of your life. There is no limit of what you can store in your own mind that you don’t mind to open but do not think of ‘take care’. There is an unlimited capacity in the heart of yours.  Protect the space of your heart to breath in the a ‘space’ full of knowledge.

Just think a little every one of us is a master. Master to somebody or to everybody. Our own mistakes are our own masters of life. The things that you achieve using your own talents and skills can be used as a teaching material to teach your own kids or to teach something to your colleague who is in trouble in planning his/her own life goals.  The mistakes are better tools to craft our own lives. For others it is a role model or a guideline to build or to re build a better place or ones life.

People fail or fall. When ever you fail you can learn things from those failures of your life. Failures are the masters who teach us or show us ‘the paths to successes’. These things would teach you a best technique to stand firm and steady.

We don’t get all the chances to learn all the things that we like to learn or want to learn. And sometimes you may do not own the necessary abilities to learn what you like but you can learn and improve the abilities that you least own by getting help from your masters. The person who is willing to help you when you are in trouble is truly a master of hearts.
There were times that I did not learn things methodically. The victories of the others of my classes taught me uncountable lessons ‘how I should try to reach to the path of learning’. Ones success of something is truly a methodology for a person to win or to re shape his/her life.  So the failures as well as successes are guidelines and they are masters too. I guess this tell us a story of the importance of immaterial and material things. The creatures that can breath the things that can not breath but feel all these are teachers.

The technique of teaching is differs to every master and the techniques of learning things are also different to each and every student.  My father was a good cook but he never knew the technique of handling a cattle farm I am so sure about that. ‘ Jayasekara Maama’ of my village is a genius in that.  One needs to know the correct way of boiling ‘milk’ that is the technique of cooking. But taking care of a cattle farm or milking are totally different subjects.
Running a huge business or a home based business or ‘weaving a basket’ what do you think of the techniques or the creativity, the skills, abilities  that one required to engage in such fields?
What the common techniques that one should follow apart from the different or unique techniques that require for different areas of different subjects>
Dedication, enthusiasm, courage,  etc ….. those are the things that one should collate before step in to something new to you or to me I believe.
Yes I also agree that the person who knows to weave a basket in a brilliant way may also know the technique of selling it to his/her own customers.  Some people know more than one technique of learning and teaching. Some techniques are so practical and that can not be found in writing.
You may aware of many teachers that belong to different, class and caste categories.  Some do not know to teach but they are teachers’ there are some others that know how to teach but they are not ‘teachers’ by profession. Teachers are teachers and they are parents too and how can we forget that they are learners too. Parents are the best teachers in the world.
A child can become a teacher to their parents.
I generally do not like the word teaching’. Knowledge is something that we should share’ ‘sharing is the true meaning of teaching’. The students have every qualification to be a teacher to his/her own master.
Siblings are teachers too.  Sometimes they are the best masters. You learn things from them. They are the honest masters , they are second only to the world best masters the parents.
Even if they are against to what you believe in or what you think is right (we are siblings but how can forget that people are different and this truth applicable to siblings as well.)  or don’t know to support you for the things you do …… still they teach you something. Sometimes they do not care for you may be because they are busy all the time. They may face difficulties finding some time to spend with you or to share a word with you still they teach you something or everything about life. They are masters of their own world and the world of their own sisters and brothers.

The movie makers, the producers, the technicians, and the music composers, the lyrists teach you things via the movies they create. When you sit with the audience you may learn different things. You may hear the way that they appreciate or accept the things discussed in the movie.  Friends can learn things from each other. They are masters too no matter what profession they hold.
Life is ‘a possible lesson’ to learn well or accurately with the help of good masters of life. Some times you become your own master of your life. While the other masters play the role the teachers and supporters and the breath of your life.

Well I don’t think that one can stop explaining about the masters of life that will be a never ending explanation.  This whole world is a net, a huge net, a wonderful net, every corner of this world is connected via this net. But please that is not internet always.  Internet is a net but that is not a real net. There are so huge and strong nets than this internet.  It is a fishnet to a fisherman. It is a heart net to a child, it is a nest to a bird, it is next to your nest sometimes, it a net that comes and go passing your door step or your house net.  This avurudu is a master. A master of good values, the master of sharing, the one and only master of good teachings , the masters of this universe the parents. the values and the importance of this celebration is a net that covers the all the hearts of your community.  That is how sometimes the values become the masters of a community, a country.
‘Farmer is a master and a friend too. An ant is a master. He is an all day busy master and my amma says that the ‘kandyan dancer’ is a remover a extractor of all sorrows and tears or bad will powers of others. The rhythms of their foot steps teach us how to keep our steps in this soil carefully and systematically and according to the sounds of the drum, the heart beat of our own hearts I believe. That is a well composed rhythm of music of life.  So the dancer is a not just a dancer but a master.

And this new year let us not forget to go and visit the masters of our yesteryear, the masters of our school days and celebrate avurudu with them and spend a moment with them.  Yes we live only a moment in this earth let’s live a meaningful moment.  A moment is sometimes a decade, a century, a universe.

The Sinhalese and Hindu New year celebration is a ‘universe full of teaching and learning’.
There is no need to try to be a master but try to be a student all the time. Then we all automatically become a master to somebody or to everybody. That is a very natural process that required no particular teaching techniques or materials.
